Let’s meet… Seamus Kelly
An accredited mediator trained by the Society of Mediators, Seamus is able to mediate in all civil and commercial disputes. He has an extensive background in complex legal costs disputes, with experience representing both claimants and defendants, adopting a balanced and pragmatic approach to conflict.
As a qualified Solicitor Advocate, Seamus regularly attends court, and is well versed on assessing the strengths and weaknesses of arguments. His specialist experience in the area of legal costs gives him a unique awareness of the commercial realities and monetary risks of disputes.
Seamus always encourages parties to step back and look at the bigger picture. Through this mindset, Seamus has developed a reputation for being pragmatic, sensible and reliable. He is a proponent of ADR and believes that there is always a way forward, helping each party to see this.
Before practicing in England, Seamus worked for the NHS Directorate of Legal Services in the North of Ireland. Since moving to England in 2011, he has practised exclusively in legal costs, dealing with disputes in a wide array of practice areas including clinical negligence matters, boundary disputes, commercial claims and claims against landlords.

Friendly and pragmatic in his approach, he combines commercial acumen with a determination to deliver effective mediations. He has a keen eye for detail and is able to help parties consider different perspectives.
He believes his role is to facilitate discussions so that parties can narrow issues and find common ground where possible. He empowers parties to conduct their own rational analysis, prompting participants to reflect on their own positions.
Seamus believes that most disputes can be resolved through dialogue, however where a settlement is not possible the mediation will still help the parties to understand each others’ positions. This in itself can be hugely beneficial for all parties involved.
